The Costa degli Etruschi is an area of coastland that stretches for more than 90 kilometres. It is part of the region of Tuscany and possesses the light, colours and aromas of the Mediterranean. It is a land where the sea plays the leading role.
The coastline has been presented with many European Union Blue Flags and other important awards for its clean waters and quality of services. In fact the sea is crystal clear, abounding in fish, and the coast offers numerous facilities and services for visitors.
Long stretches of rocky coast alternate with beaches of both fine and coarse sand. The beaches consist of a combination of areas for free bathing with essential facilities, and traditional bathing establishments. Trattorias and restaurants along the coast offer excellent cuisine with a maritime flavour, accompanied by the extraordinary Costa degli Etruschi wines.
There are plenty of green areas, in the pinewoods that border on the beaches, and in the woods and parks situated a short distance from the coast. On the coast itself is the city of Livorno and the prestigious seaside resorts of Castiglioncello, San Vincenzo, Cecina, Baratti, Marina di Castagneto, Bibbona, Quercianella and Donoratico.
But the most distinctive feature of the sea in this area is the opportunities it offers for a whole range of water sports: diving, windsurfing and sailing are just some of the sports available, made possible by the environment, the special climate, and supporting services such as sailing schools and clubs, and many well-organised landing points.
To complete all this there is the unique history, art and archaeology of the Costa degli Etruschi, not to mention the hospitality of its people.
